  • there were a lot of emotions that day. I had been on bedrest for a month, and had to be induced, the drugs were slow, they decided to break my water. he came fast and hard, just about an hour, my body didn’t have time to prepare. The epidural wasn’t available. I said afterwards that I couldn’t believe a person could feel so much pain and still be alive. The rushed him away, I didn’t get to see him. How is he? He’s grey. He wasn’t breathing. You’re a superwoman, the intern said, trying to distract me, it was his first birth. I was so concerned about having a baby at my age, then, 38. Everything was going wrong. I hardly saw him that first night.

After several days in an incubator, and a few more days of observation, we could finally go home. He’s a strong one, he is now a robust three year old, all full of life.  Happy birthday Grayson, you’re not a baby any more, you’re a little boy now. We are going to have a great day today.
